Book Review | Gone
By Caitlin Hill
What would you do if all the adults disappeared? Gone by Michael Grant is a dystopian science fiction novel about a town that has been robbed of its adults. All that’s left are children under the age of 16. Internet, phones, television don’t work anymore. They are barricaded from the rest of society by a dome. Some start to develop powers - supernatural abilities beyond belief, with bullies ruling and two fighting schools.
This novel alternates between multiple points of view, from the smartest girl in the school to a boy developing powers. The main antagonist is a boarding school full of ‘psycho’ children, and a mysterious creature somehow linked to the powers. This is the first novel of six primary novels in the series. Character development was a little too fast, but the story was told at a good pace. I found that the novel had a lot of similarities to Stephen King’s Under the Dome which made the novel a little underwhelming.
Overall, the book is great and I would definitely recommend it.
