Dealing with Academic Pressure?
By Mariana Salama
I’m sure we can all agree that sure, high school in its entirety is tough, perhaps stressful. High school with its academic rigor, extracurriculars such as sports, clubs, work, etc., can be very overwhelming and tiring.
I’d love to complain about the stress that tags along with Junior Year, but I’d much rather give some useful insight into taming the stress monster. Here are a few ways you can beat the stress:
I’d love to complain about the stress that tags along with Junior Year, but I’d much rather give some useful insight into taming the stress monster. Here are a few ways you can beat the stress:
- Get. Some. Sleep. I understand that you must study for your algebra test, but you will not do well if you fall asleep in the rest of your classes. Aim for at least 4-6 hours every night.
- Set goals for yourself. Look at the work you have done and plan out when you will get it done. Once you have some kind of plan, you will have a better idea of what needs to get done and when.
- Get up and dance! Put your earbuds in and take 5 minutes to get up and move around. Your blood will circulate and endorphins, or your brain’s “feel good chemical,” will be released into your body. Not only will you be happy, you will feel energized.
- Take your assignments one step at a time. Remember, you are the student. The teacher is there to help you succeed. Do not suffer in silence. If you need help, make sure you ask for it.
- You got this! Remember, the current state you are in is only temporary. Be confident in yourself and stay positive! You made it this far; you will continue onward and succeed!
