Buongiorno! (Hello!) Nottingham High School’s Italian Club is a place for our students to enrich, educate, and experience different aspects of Italian culture. Our club offers great opportunities to encounter authentic and meaningful activities. Room 119 every other Friday from 2:45-3:30 is full with members from all grades, levels of Italian, and some with no prior knowledge of Italian culture to learn. Thanks to the wonderful club advisor Professorssa Vallucci members are able to learn about Italian culture through different activities that include Scopa (an Italian card game), making Tiramisu (a traditional dessert), and learning about Italian events like Carnevale and the tradition of the Presepe, Christmas Nativity scenes. The Italian club offers great opportunities for students to learn (more) about Italian culture and language. This year alone we have made delicious Italian desserts, played Italian games, and have had a meaningful discussion with our guest speaker (Signora Anita San Severino) about typical traditions in Italy around Christmas time.
The members of the Italian Club get to do hands-on activities as well as partake in discussions about Italian culture to further enrich themselves. For example, one Friday afternoon the members participated in making Tiramisu which is a traditional Italian coffee-flavored Italian dessert that consists of ladyfinger cookies dipped in coffee covered in layers of mascarpone cheese and cocoa powder. Another Friday the members took part in playing the game Scopa which is an Italian card game that is played by Italians of all ages. Before the holidays we also got to play tombola, the Italian version of Bingo and flavored some authentic Italian holiday desserts such as Panettone (sweet bread with raisins) and Pandoro (sweet bread). All Fridays consist of a brief discussion explaining aspects of how the activities we partake in tie into Italian culture. The Italian Club is always interested in new members and welcomes any student at Nottingham regardless of the language class they are taking currently! Please come and join us in Room 119 and we look forward to seeing you in the future! |
