Survey Results
by Molly Cuddy
Over 80 people replied to our news survey posted back in October. These questions asked how Nottingham students get/feel about news. According to the survey, over 50% of those surveyed get their news from social media. Twitter, Facebook and even Snapchat are always keeping their users up to date on news, politically and otherwise.
Furthermore, over 75% of survey takers believe that news stories are littered with mistakes and inaccuracies. However, he majority of people believe the news source they trust the most is their television news. Their least trustworthy television network is Fox, and their most trusted is CNN.
Over half of those surveyed also believed that journalists don’t do enough to expose government problems. However, just less than half of people think journalists are too critical. A majority also believes journalists and news should be strictly factual without any opinions.
Finally, 45.8% of those surveyed believe news is depressing more than anything. They think that news is more negative than it is entertaining.
