Martin Luther King Jr.
On Martin Luther King day we commemorate a momentous man who truly changed the course of history. In honor of Martin Luther King people across the world celebrate the legacy he left behind. A student at our school said to them MLK was, “a great man who peacefully spoke out about Civil Rights, and made sure his message was heard.” One of the many amazing achievements MLK had in his life is his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. On August 23, 1963 he said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” Now the question we must ask ourselves is; is that day today? After Dr. King has taught our nation the value of courage, compassion, and that justice can be achieved without violence. Can we honestly say that his dream has come true? This is why we have Martin Luther King day, not only to honor a man, but to remind us as a people of his dream. So everyday that goes by we work to make our nation a place where we can say; his four little children would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
