This year’s fall Spirit Week concluded with Nottingham’s first talent show in over ten years. The event was a great success and had a huge turnout. Held on Friday, October 21, the talent show was quickly sold out. The event was run by the student government advisor, Ms. Lauren Flaherty, and hosted by the senior student government and class officers. The hosts also showcased their own acting abilities with humorous skits and video clips.
Throughout the night, each act was carefully evaluated by a panel of Northstar faculty members who eventually decided the Top 4. Nottingham’s talented participants certainly rose to the high expectations of the large audience. With twenty acts ranging from animated bottle-flipping to passionate ballads to advanced hula-hooping, the audience felt the hard work and dedication of each student. |
Among the Top 4 was Rebecca Roman, who performed a hip-hop dance routine; Anjali Patel with a Bollywood dance routine; a duo act of Jayla Diaforli and Jared Lawrence Grier, who sang and played the piano; and Ava Nicolo, who showcased her lyrical dance abilities. A live poll was posted on the unofficial NHS Twitter account (@NHSNorthstars), where it was left to the audience to decide the eventual winner. Jayla and Jared (photo left), who sang “Stone Cold” by Demi Lovato, were the clear winners by an incredible 58%!
Jayla relates, “I’m really thankful for the opportunity because I love to sing for people, and I especially love performing with my best friend, Jared.” Jared expressed that “the talent show was a great experience to share the power of music with everyone.” Jayla is auditioning for America’s Got Talent on January 14, 2017 in Philadelphia. |
