In a school full of shining Northstars, there is one facet of Nottingham athletics that is often overlooked. Nottingham’s own swamp rats have had significant achievements on the wrestling mat with many outstanding athletes. While the team finished with a record of 8-18, there are several swamp rats whose wins far outweigh losses. One such Northstar is senior standout Marc Jordine whose current record is 28-6 and who is seeded 2nd in his category for District 24. Jerry Andaluz, a junior, has also accomplished many wins throughout the season.
Sylvester Freeman placed 6th in NJSIAA Region 6, while Marc Jordine and junior Josh Almanzar also qualified for Regionals. Jerry Andaluz finished 4th at Regionals and qualified for States.
However, seeded first in his respective category for the aforementioned match is Sylvester Freeman. Named the "Most Outstanding Wrestler" at the Nottingham Invitational, Sylvester is a tri-season athlete involved in not only wrestling but also football in the fall and track and field in the spring. Having wrestled for four years, Sylvester has garnered extreme success in all his sports, especially wrestling. While initially drawn to wrestling merely “to get better at other sports,” Sylvester now recognizes wrestling as his favorite sport. And in his four years of wrestling, Sylvester easily recognizes his favorite moment: winning the Mercer County Tournament (MCT's) for the first.
And yes, you read that correctly. Sylvester has come out on top at MCT's for two years in a row. While he has certainly come far in his wrestling career, Sylvester remains focused on his goal of winning States, and, no matter the outcome, has made Nottingham proud.
