Valentine's Day Activities
by Audrey Ford
Here is a list of activities you can do this year for Valentine’s Day! Given the circumstances, all of these activities can be done remotely; if you prefer company, you can ask a family member or call a friend to do these things with you. Happy Valentine’s Day!
- Make a treat.
It can be brownies, pancakes, chocolate covered strawberries, cookies, ramen, or a big fancy dinner for your family; cooking something will help this night to feel special! Cooking is proven to boost your mood and give you a sense of accomplishment. Plus, you get to enjoy something delicious afterward! - Challenge a friend or family member to make crazy valentines.
This activity will take a total of 35 minutes, and it can be done with any amount of people. First, set a timer for 5 minutes. In those 5 minutes, gather supplies from around the house. You can get things from a junk drawer, an office, or even from your backyard. Next, set a timer for 30 minutes. In those 30 minutes, make a valentine using the supplies you collected. You can also gather more supplies if needed, but try to stick to the ones you already gathered. After the 30 minutes is up, stop working and show off your crazy Valentines! (optional: when you set the timer for 30 minutes, you can also set one for 25 minutes to give yourself a 5 minute warning.) - Do a random act of kindness.
Valentine’s Day is a day to spread love. Doing a random act of kindness for someone is a great way to do that. This can be helping one of your parents bring in groceries, making a card for an elderly neighbor, or letting your sibling choose the game that you play. Acts of kindness will not only make someone else’s day, but they can make yours too. - Pamper yourself!
Pampering yourself is a great way to spend Valentine’s Day. Not only is Valentine’s Day a day to love others, it is also a day to love yourself. You can work on your mental health by doing something you enjoy and taking a break from social media, or you can work on your physical health by doing a face mask or yoga. Either way, you can pamper yourself by treating yourself kindly and giving yourself the day off. - Have a TV or movie marathon.
This is another one that can be done by yourself or with someone else. If you are behind on a TV series that you like or you have a movie that you have always wanted to watch, Valentine’s Day is a great day to watch them. Don’t forget the popcorn! - Do something outside.
Even though it is February and the weather outside might not be the greatest, spending time outside is a great way to spend Valentine’s Day. You could go on a walk, have a picnic at the park, draw positive messages on the sidewalk with chalk, or even just sit and do something quiet. Going outside is a great way to clear your head, and it has proven medical benefits. Plus, it is nice to get out after being cooped up in the house for a long time. - Call a friend.
If you feel lonely on Valentine’s day, chances are one of your friends will feel lonely too. Call them up and have a nice chat with them. You can also reach out to someone that you haven’t talked to in a while to catch up with them. Even if you don’t want to have a full fledged conversation, send them a nice text. It will surely brighten their day. - Have a dance party!
Dancing is a great way to boost your mood, and partying to your favorite songs will help you to ease your loneliness. So put your favorite songs on shuffle and boogie those blues away! - Decorate a space.
There is no better way to get in the Valentine’s Day mood than making your space look festive! For this activity, pick a space in your house; a bedroom, common gathering place like a living or dining room, or your favorite nook, and decorate it! You can add paper hearts, garland, lace, or even other winter things like paper snowflakes. - Make a list of things you love.
Valentine’s Day is a day of love, so make a list of everything you love and are grateful for in your life. It can be a feeling, a person, a place, an object, or even a favorite memory. Whatever it is, jot it down, and your spirits will definitely be lifted by the end of the day.
