FBLA 2021-2022
FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America. It is a nationwide organization that teaches students about the importance of business careers and how to succeed in life. FBLA is open to anyone and there are no strings attached. Just because you join FBLA does not mean that you need to major in business. FBLA also helps with many other majors such as healthcare and the sports industry.
FBLA has its members choose an event that they would like to compete in so that they can gain knowledge about that particular topic. There are a variety of events that you can compete in and you can compete as partners or in groups from certain events. Whatever topic that you choose requires you to take a multiple choice test to see if your score qualifies for the state leadership conference which is always held in Atlantic City! If you qualify, you get to go on a three day overnight trip to Atlantic City to compete for a chance to go to nationals.
If you don’t place for the event you chose, that’s alright! There are other events that you can choose to still go to Atlantic City. Those events are called straight to state events. These events often require you to prepare a slideshow or speech prior to arriving which you must present to a judge. If you did end up qualifying for the state leadership conference, depending on your event, you may need to take another test, present something to a judge, or roleplay. That is why you should look deeper into your event before choosing it.
This year’s State Leadership Conference was held at Harrah's Resort Atlantic City from March 9 - 11. The people representing Nottingham were Mia Renoj-Mejia, Eshal Nawaz, Ericsa Jean, and Zobia Chaudhry along with advisor Mrs. Dooley.
From this year’s state leadership conference, Zobia Chaudhry placed first in her event, Help Desk, beating out every other high school in the North, South, and Central Regions of New Jersey. She will go on to Nationals in Chicago, where she will compete on behalf of New Jersey. Congratulations to her! The club is always looking for more members, so consider joining FBLA! All you have to do is contact Mrs. Dooley in room 118!
