Course Scheduling for 2018 - 2019
By Ms. Ann Schiavoni | Guidance Counselor
On Friday, freshman and sophomore students will begin scheduling in the library. These students will meet one on one with their guidance counselors to discuss their course selection for next year. Juniors are already being called down to see their guidance counselors to decide on next year’s courses.
To prepare for your meeting, students should take a look at the new Program of Studies found here. This book outlines your graduation requirements, your PARCC requirements and describes all the classes offered in Hamilton.
This year, we have added Honors level courses to many of our core academics. All core History courses and most core Science courses now will be offered at the Honors level. If you are interested, talk to your current teacher or your counselor about the prerequisite requirements for taking and Honors course.
We have a new course, Drama: Introduction to Theater Arts. In this course, students will be exposed to theater history, production and performance. This course is an excellent choice for students considering careers in any aspect of the theater, or in any field where they may be involved in public speaking (teaching and trial law).
You may want to consider taking Internet Concepts/Web page Design and Multimedia Presentations. These half year courses will help you brush up on your PowerPoint skills and prepare you to do amazing presentations in your college classes. Students will also build their own web page for personal or even small business use. You will always be able to find what you want online once you take this class! Both of these courses are very helpful to anyone planning to open their own business, teach, or any future college student.
For our Future Business Leaders, please consider Introduction to Business, a course first offered this year. This course will introduce you to the organization of a business, and is a recommended prerequisite for Business Law and Business Administration.
Any student considering the teaching profession should take Tomorrow’s Teachers, to learn more about the demands and rewards of classroom teaching. This course also offers ample opportunity to observe and includes a practicum, where student work under the direction of an established teacher.
For students looking to hone their writing skills, Journalism and Creative Writing are two excellent electives. As a Journalism student, you will have a chance to have your work published in Star Status. Creative Writing students will be able to submit your work to Caelestis. All these classes and more can be found in the Program of Studies. Take a look today and see your counselor with questions!
