Mana Tiki: Nottingham Marching Unit 2019-2020
By Aamina Arain
After many weeks of practice the Nottingham Marching Unit had its first competition of the year on September 21, 2019. The name of the field show this year is Mana Tiki, by Gary P. Gilroy, and has a joyful Hawaiian theme. The competition took place at Brick Memorial High School, where schools from all over the state came to perform. This years show will not only entertain its viewers, but it also transports them to a tropical island. The band gets decked out in leis and has tikis accompany them onto the field. All of the hard work wasn’t for nothing because the band received best percussion in their division out of two other bands. If that wasn’t incredible enough, the band also received second best percussion out of all performing bands. As well as performing at competitions, the marching unit works hard to bring the spirit to the football games. None of this would be possible if it weren’t for the encouraging directors, parents, and student leaders.

The Nottingham Marching Unit had a very successful season. Along with supporting the football team at every game, the band attends competitions. This year the marching unit went to the State Championship and competed against other schools in their division. They placed fourth out of six other bands and received the caption award for best visual. The Northstar Marching Unit also competed at other schools, including Hamilton High West, where they received first place and won all captions. This year was one of the best for the Marching Unit, and that is due to the hours of practice put in by all the members, encouragement from the directors, and support from parents.
