Wrestling Breaks School Record
by Molly Cuddy
Nottingham’s varsity wrestling team is continuing their legacy in the 2016-2017 season. The season began with a good start when the team came in 2nd place at their home tournament. Devion Stokes (220 pounds) took home the gold, as well as A.J. May at 160 pounds. This was the kickoff to a great season, along with the Swamprats taking home the CVC Championship for another year. Another banner will soon be added to the Swamp. At the recent MCT Tournament held at Robbinsville High School, the team finished in 2nd out of 15 teams with 206 points in total. Sylvester Freeman came out on top for 285, and that was just one of many awards for the Swamprats this tournament. Greg Daloisio came in 3rd, Jake Santiago in 4th, Tyriq Morton in 3rd, and 5 more wrestlers placed as well. The team is on their way to beating the school record. Team captain Jake Singleton relayed that they tied the school record at their recent quad. “We’re going to the best team in school history,” he recounts. With an overall record of 19-6 this season, and a few more matches before the season ends, the team is looking good for beating the record. |
